EURO-THRASH:
Celtic Frost

Let us begin this segment by conveniently refusing to acknowlege the existence of "Cold Lake".
I have no idea what the hell that was or why it ever happened, but I can only describe it as 'Swiss Cheese' ...let us move on.
This band deserves a great deal of credit for taking the style of thrash to an "Avant Garde" level.
The Usurper - the opening track from To Mega Therion (Pictured, below left) is an excellent example.
This track is a CRUSHING assault on the senses; a furiously paced excersise in guttural growling and low-tuned havoc.

They took it to yet another level with their next release, Into The Pandemonium (above right)
...and even displayed Ultimate Coolness by covering Wall Of Voodoo's Mexican Radio.
(now, it would have far transcended 'ultimate coolness' had they
settled on Tse Tse Fly or The Passenger, but you can't have everything.)
Anyway, these two releases (widely regarded as their best)
...as well as their older material like Morbid Tales are all certainly worth a listen.
The Celtic Frost Discography is a good way to trace back the history & define
the influences of some of the more experimental 'Black' Metal bands of today.

(don't get me started on this; I have some real problems with many of these clonish, [clownish] ultra-dramatic, "ultra-evil"
unintelligible logo-sporting freaks & wanna-be ghouls that are flooding the metal underground scene these days like some depraved satanic circus act;
whereas CF did it with class, originality and artistic style)

Enough of that: I would just like to mention that CF Mastermind Tom Gabriel Fischer (Warrior)
is a class act and a very interesting, intelligent fellow, to say the least.

UPDATE:
There are confirmations of not only a RE-UNION, but a RETURN TO FORM for Celtic Frost!
This is excellent news for the Adventurous-minded Metalheads and Guttural Grinders of this world.
For latest rumblings, check out the CF message board.
Tom is a frequent visitor there. Go talk it up!

THIS is one fuckin' KILLER Official Website
