PICTURES
Andy Stennett and John Rocca are Pictures. Together they have created
an album that they describe as a "musical canvas." Andy Stennett compares
listening to the Pictures album to "turning over the pages of a picture book."
The intent of these two English musicians (Stennett - all keyboards and
programming; Rocca - percussion, vocals and lyrics) was to create an album
that would present the entire life cycle of one person within its scope. To
this end they have utilized accepted devices of film music production to
evoke certain moods and emotions. For example, a churchy organ might indi-
cate loneliness or high string tones could suggest a haunted house.
Stennett and Rocca have used a holistic approach to create their work.
Stennett has likened this approach to the way a painter's imagination has
already formed a complete image before actually executing his piece. Both
this holistic philosophy and evocative film music techniques were then placed
within a pop music context.
