KREATOR - Violent Revolution
SPV (2001)

Oh, for fuck’s sake. Now I have another contender for album of the year, and I’ve only heard it three times so far!

Kreator are back. Or so say those who know the band. I’m ashamed to say that I own none of their records except this one. But you better well believe that I’m going to be out this week getting some friggin’ back catalogue…..

This is thrash metal, baby. And I need not say more. But I will. This shit is good. Really good. Like 20 years down the line someone uses this album like this, “Dude, you don’t own Violent Revolution? You’re fuckin’ crazy!” Basically, I smell a classic here. Not a weak moment on this CD. But I’m gonna have weak parts in my neck from thrashing like a sonofabitch. Not to mention I’ll have carpal tunnel syndrome from playing air guitar.

Seriously though, this is a fist pumping, sing along thrash metal album like I haven’t heard in quite some time. The vocals are great – rough but understandable and solid. The lyrics are very memorable too, which is just icing on the cake. There’s great drum work with well placed fills and just enough double bass at times to give it nice flavor. And the guitars just riff along like it’s 1989 – you know the kinds of riffs that you put on a puckered face and bob your head to? That’s what they got! It’s fast, it’s slow, it’s loud, it’s quiet, it rips, it’s everything a great metal album needs to be. But the big thing is the strength – you can just feel it. This is fucking rock solid, and I can’t believe how much I enjoy it, even if it does sound like it could have been released a few years back. How come nobody told me about these guys before this??

Everybody who’s sick of having to bitch about how Megadeth suck the bag, Metallica couldn’t write a thrash riff if their bank accounts depended on it, and Slayer “just aren’t the same” can take comfort in knowing this kind of music is still being made.

All you metalheads better shell out the bills for this one right away, because when I’m drinkin’ my balls off to this album, I want you all singing along with me!!!
