The New Album

From themelvins.net:

In the spring of 2003 the fellows reconvened in Los Angeles with
Grammy winning producer/engineer (Norah Jones) Husky Hoskulds,
to record the better part of 2 new records with distinctly different moods.
DELIRIUM CORDIA is the first of these 2 new recordings.
The next will come out in the first half of 2004.
DELIRIUM CORDIA is one track.
It is several pieces that are weaved together to form one piece.
It showcases a quiet side of Fantômas. The Ritalin seems to be working!
Possibly the soundtrack to a very dark, fever induced nightmare.
The momentary ambience is followed by chaos and confusion.
Needless to say, this won't be heard on the radio.
Turn on, Tune in & Nod out.

Fantômas plans on doing extensive touring in 2004.
How they will pull this stuff off live is anybody's guess.
If record sales and press reaction are any indication,
it seems that there are many music listening people worldwide
that are looking for something unique and interesting.
Fantômas's brand of uneasy listening fills that need.
The third course, DELIRIUM CORDIA, for your consumption.

PATTON STRIKES AGAIN

"The Director's Cut" (2001)
(a Review)

Behold the seedy sounds of this Sin-o-Matic FANTÔMAS release.
We have 15 "Takes". (plus the mysterious "Take 13")...
We have material based entirely on Motion Picture and T.V. scores ranging from 1955 to 1992, all on the darker side of things.
We have epic crescendos, blast-beat mayhem, blissfull odd time signatures, retro melodia, and spooky interludes,
all laced with PattonTheGodOfMusic and his inimitable and unmatched range of Vocalized Psychosis.

Fantômas is:
Patton, (vocals/ arrangement/ adaptation +?) and Trevor Dunn (Bass +?) from Mr. Bungle, etc.,
Double-Kick icon Dave Lombardo (Slayer, Grip Inc.),
and Melvins Axe Murderer Buzz Osbourne

The production here is well-suited to the material at hand;
Flat and Creepy, trapping you in a room which has been soundproofed with walls six feet deep of moist earth all around,
adding 13 inches of damp wet moss emanating swamp gas.
This release makes one realize that we are all pretty lucky.
After all we certainly ain't got it as bad as say, Sonny Corleone, or Rosemary Woodhouse, or Henry's Hapless Victims.
So take heart kind folks...

This one ought to help blow the dust off of a few forlorn vids on the shelves of the local rental retailer.
Don't miss out, this is a Rare, Unique, Classic, Highbrow/ Lowbrow Endeavor.

The first, self-titled Fantômas Album:

is quite different from 'Director's Cut' in most respects.
It follows an unusual 'Book' format, with the songs serving as the 'Pages'.
It is an interesting concept, while the music is like a series of strange and violent montages, ranging in overall length.
